Aphyric basalt with rare, poorly
formed Olivine
microphenocrysts.
Plagioclase is the only
phase recognizeable in the glassy to cryptocrystalline groundmass.
Two different "Domains" are present
- Domain 1 is sparsely
vesicular and contains relatively fewer
Plagioclase laths and relatively
more glass than the non-vesicular Domain 2. The less crystalline Domain 1 represents a
gas-driven melt segregation from the basalt part of the flow after
35%-50% crystallization that has migrated into the main part of the
lava flow.
